Jacksonville — A rapid burst of gunfire on the Westside left four people shot Monday, one fatally, as detectives worked to piece together a chaotic scene on the 8000 block of Susie Street.
What happened on Susie Street
Shortly before 1 p.m. on July 27, several 911 calls reported multiple people had been shot outside homes and businesses in the portion of Susie Street that sits off Old Middleburg Road and 103rd Street, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Jacob Vorpahl said. Officers arriving at the scene found three people with gunshot wounds; another shooter or victim later presented himself at a hospital on his own.

The victims ranged in age: a 57-year-old woman who later died at a hospital; a 33-year-old man and a 69-year-old man who were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds; and a 31-year-old man who went to a hospital independently with a gunshot wound. Authorities have not released names.
Investigation details and challenges
Investigators say the shooting appeared to happen outdoors and that at least two firearms were involved. Multiple people were detained initially, Vorpahl said, but detectives were still sorting roles and determining who were victims and who may have been involved in the violence.

Local attention has also been drawn to the exact block where Monday’s incident unfolded: it is the same block in which a double shooting in April left a woman dead and later led to a police shooting involving a suspect. That history adds to community unease and focuses investigators on possible links between incidents.
